Jazz-y summer in Russia
Russia is having multiple Jazz festivals coming up this month. One is even related to science – Skolkovo Jazz Science – in addition to the performances of leading jazz musicians, you can attend scientific discussions and get involved in interactive venues.
The program of the second Skolkovo Jazz Science festival, which will be held August 26 at the Skolkovo Innovation Center, is announced. Guests are expected to perform performances of leading jazz bands and soloists, scientific discussions, interactive venues and other musical and intellectual events.
Improvisation and creativity
As the organizers promise, the venue will become an improvisation area and a field for demonstrating new creative possibilities.
“The guests of the festival will be able to immerse themselves in the world of experimental media technologies and learn how innovations in science become a new tool for interaction with art,”
Elena Zelentsova, Vice President of the Skolkovo Foundation, described the direction of the forum.
Among the participants Skolkovo Jazz Science 2017 a lot of stars, including the Moscow jazz orchestra Igor Butman, who will present a joint program with vocalist Yaroslav Simonova.
“Jazz and science are related concepts, and it’s not accidental that they are connected,”
the People’s Artist of Izvestia explained. The jazzmen appreciate experiment and improvisation as highly as scientists.
One of the main events of the festival will be the performance of Azekel, a British of Nigerian descent, known for his own creativity, as well as working with legendary Massive Attack and Gorillaz.
Looking forward to the fans of jazz first in Russia performances of the five-time nominee for the Grammy Award, pianist Christian Sands (USA) with his trio. In a new capacity, one of the best academic chamber orchestras “Music Viva” under the direction of Alexander Rudin and with the participation of pianist Yuri Favorin will try himself. The ensemble “Marimba plus” and its leader, composer and performer on the Marimba Lea Slepner will demonstrate the fusion of jazz, ethnic and electronic music, as well as academic traditions.
One of the most unusual festival performances promises to become a set of laureate of the Sergei Kuryokhin Anton Maskelyadze. An experimental artist controls music and video with gestures – this is how leap motion technology works. Only two stages of the festival will be performed by eight musical groups. The performance will be magnificient – as if playing games in top 12 casinos online and winning biggest prices in all 12 of them – just as exciting and thrilling feeling.
In addition, the program includes open discussions, interactive zones and art objects, united by the idea of merging music and science. Guests will be able to take part in experiments, visit a scientific buffet and watch the creation of cryomolding or quicksand sands from starch and water. In the special zone of vinyl it will be possible to purchase plates of current jazz performers and representatives of other musical directions, and at the book fair there will be publications on various topics, including musical, popular science and biomedical literature.
